Velika Britanija izašla iz recesije / The United Kingdom has emerged from recession.

The United Kingdom emerged from recession in the first quarter, driven by a recovery in the manufacturing and service sectors, according to the latest data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS). Gross Domestic Product (GDP) grew by 0.6 percent from January to the end of March compared to the previous three months, the strongest since the fourth quarter of 2021, following a decline in the second half of last year. A technical recession is defined as two consecutive quarters of activity decline at the quarterly level. The British GDP decreased by 0.3 percent in the fourth quarter and by 0.1 percent in the third. Economists attribute the exit from recession at the beginning of the year primarily to improvements in the service and manufacturing sectors, which recorded growth rates of 0.7 and 0.8 percent, respectively. “After two quarters of decline, the British economy grew again in the first three months of this year,” said Liz McKeown, Director of Economic Statistics at the ONS. She added that particularly strong growth was recorded in the service industries, highlighting the retail, public transport, freight, and health sectors. According to her, car manufacturers also had a good quarter, but were overshadowed by consistently weak results in construction. “There is no doubt that the past year has been tough, but the latest growth figures are evidence that the economy is recovering, for the first time since the pandemic,” said Finance Minister Jeremy Hunt. Compared to the first three months of last year, the economy almost stagnated, as it did at the end of last year.
